Love Thy Neighbor

When my neighbors stopped by today to drop off a batch of cookies, I was reminded of what the Bible teaches in Mark 12:31, to "love thy neighbor as thyself". It is a blessing to have neighbors that stop by to see what you need, to bring food to show how much they care, to visit their home or they come to your home for Bible study or prayer. But our neighbors are not only the people living next door, our neighbors are the people we come in contact with each and every day; our co-workers, employers or employees; the person you see standing on the corner holding a sign that says, "Family in Need"; the young mother who has to move into a shelter with her children to escape an abusive situation. What about the person you have been holding a grudge against for years, but can't remember why you got angry in the first place? That person is your neighbor, too. The Lord says in Leviticus 19:18, ""Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against one of your people, but love your neighbor as yourself."

This season is a season of giving. The Lord gave us a part of Himself, His one and only Son. He gave His Son so that we would have a right to be saved. He made this sacrifice, not because we deserved it, but because He loved us SO MUCH. He didn't think about Himself, He thought about us. Why don't you take this time to think about somebody other than yourself. Love your neighbor as if that neighbor were YOU. :)
